Here at StageCoach Bags, we spend our days working with leather to create beautiful bags in all shapes and sizes as well as stunning accessories. But did you know that when we got started, we had no idea how to work with leather? Luckily, the wonderful people at Tandy Leather helped us learn everything we needed to know to transform leather cowboy boots into gorgeous new purses. Let’s take a look back at Tandy Leather and how they helped StageCoach Bags get started:
The History of Tandy Leather
Tandy Leather started way back in 1919, and they’ve been educating people about the beauty of leathercrafting ever since. It all started with Charles Tandy, a man with a passion for leathercraft and teaching others about it. Charles wanted to teach the entire world about the importance, beauty, and art of creating various items out of leather—a craft that had been around since the history of mankind. The use of leather was vital for creating clothing and footwear that would protect humans from the harsh elements. As mankind evolved, leather was still an important part of culture for many, and Charles wanted to make sure leather continued to inspire people both young and old! Tandy Leather has continued Charles’ dream by providing exceptional leather products, outstanding customer service, and education about the art of leathercraft.
The Beginning of StageCoach Bags
We three sisters have always loved leather cowboy boots and bags, but we had no idea how to work with leather when we first started our company! Luckily, Cathy and the other wonderful staff members at Tandy Leather were there to help us. They taught us how to work with leather, providing step-by-step tutorials that allowed us to become confident with our leathercrafting skills. Cathy was especially patient, helping us learn how to sew using leather lacing, how to punch straight lines in leather, what a Chicago Screw is, as well as what grade of leather to use for different items. Without Cathy and Tandy Leather, StageCoach Bags certainly wouldn’t be what it is today. Our newest creation is an oversized tote or overnight bag. Look for its debut on our website by the end of this month. For now, you can check out our selection and enjoy the different products you see. Each one is a one-of-a-kind, unique bag—as unique and different as each of you are!
